David Bowie is dead. A musician, artist, free spirit, fashion icon and serious person, Bowie seems to have died as he lived – privately: it appears few knew he had cancer. I liked his music and performances, but never owned a Bowie record, except as part of some compilation, and never saw him perform live. I did see his films “The Man who Fell to Earth” and “Goodbye Mr Lawrence”. I wouldn’t describe myself as a fan but I did appreciate the integrity of his work, his intelligence and his creativity, and I’m glad he lived. I think that 50 years from now, when so many of today’s pop idols will have been throughly (and deservedly) forgotten, Bowie will be remembered.
